EntryWick documentation

For an Owner, usually because the bell has a number on it.

Warnings in the bell — admin

The bell at the top of every admin screen.

Who opens it: an Owner, usually because the bell has a number on it. What they came to do: find out what EntryWick is warning them about, and go to the screen that fixes it. What must be true when they leave: they have seen the warning even if the email about it never reached them, and they are on the screen that resolves it.

What lands there

Five warnings, each of which is also emailed to every Owner. The email can be missed — a full inbox, a spam folder, an Owner on leave. The bell cannot, and that is the only reason it exists.

Warning When The button takes you to
Nearly full / Limit reached An event reaches 80 % and 100 % of your plan's limit Billing, where an upgrade reopens registration
API calls 80 %, 100 %, and the point where calls pause, of this month's allowance Usage
File storage 80 % and 100 % of your plan's storage Usage
A payment did not go through The first time a card is refused Billing, to update the card
The admin is read-only A payment has been outstanding for a month Billing

Each says what the number is and what happens next, because those differ by plan. None carries a password, a key, a payment link or anybody's personal details: they are counts, limits, an event's name and an amount.

Yours, for this organization

If you belong to more than one organization, each admin's bell shows that organization's warnings and nothing about the others.

It clears itself

A warning that is no longer true is marked read for you — you do not have to click it away:

  • a payment that went through clears the payment and read-only warnings at once, for every Owner;
  • an upgrade clears the limit and storage warnings it resolves, as soon as the new plan is in place;
  • everything else is checked every hour: a new month clears last month's API warning, deleted files clear a storage warning, an event that has closed clears its own.

Marked read, not removed: it stays in the list, so you can see that it was said. A warning that is still true stays unread however long that is.

What the bell is not

It does not replace the notice across the top of the admin when a payment is overdue or a self-hosted license needs attention. That notice explains a refused button on the screen it was refused on, which a bell cannot do; it stays exactly where it was.
